Regular consumption of fatty fish, 1 to 2 servings per week, is recommended by international health authorities to support general health. This recommendation corresponds to a daily average intake of 250-500 mg eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) + docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). However, not everyone likes to eat fish, and this also applies to athletes. Taking 1 softgel of the 6d OMEGA-3 per day can prevent a deficiency of EPA and DHA, due to lack of sufficient fish consumption.
Despite the various metabolic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, vascular, and cognitive effects of fish oil on the body, the science community is not yet sure whether intensive sport requires higher intakes of fish oil. Nevertheless, high doses of EPA (eg 2g / day) are recommended in some specific situations, for example during the rehabilitation process of a muscle injury. The anti-inflammatory effect, as well as the stimulating effect of EPA on muscle protein synthesis, can possibly facilitate the recovery of muscle injuries. In order to meet the demand for such high doses, an exceptionally high concentrated fish oil concentrate was used in the development of the 6d OMEGA-3. Four softgels of 6d OMEGA-3 are sufficient to obtain a dosage of 2g EPA. In addition, the chosen fish oil in the 6d OMEGA-3 is ultra-pure and is supplemented with lemon oil to mask the "fishy "after-taste often seen with fish oil supplementation.
Finally, the 6d OMEGA-3 also contains just enough vitamin E to prevent fish oil oxidation. Avoiding adding too much vitamin E is important because of the possible negative effects of (high intakes) of vitamin E on training adaptations.
In short, thanks to its extremely high dose of 500mg EPA and 250mg DHA per softgel, the 6d OMEGA-3 is the ideal supplement for athletes who do not eat (enough) fish on a regular basis. Also, athletes in need for a higher dose, for example during the rehabilitation of a muscle injury, can make use of the 6d OMEGA-3.
